{"id":1185,"date":"2022-08-11T02:27:14","date_gmt":"2022-08-11T06:27:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aux.charlotte.edu\/summer-blood-drive-collects-53-units\/"},"modified":"2023-04-14T11:27:24","modified_gmt":"2023-04-14T15:27:24","slug":"summer-blood-drive-collects-53-units","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cws.charlotte.edu\/backup-aux\/news\/2022-06-21\/summer-blood-drive-collects-53-units\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer blood drive collects 53 units"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p>Nearly 159 lives will be saved as a result of the volunteers who came out to the Cone Center on Wednesday, June 15 to donate 53 units of blood!<\/p>\n<p>Donors, volunteers and staff members all generously contributed to this event\u2019s success. <\/p>\n<p>Chantrice Rasmussen, certified caregiver, CNA\/LNA, aspiring phlebotomist and Red Cross staff member, came out to coordinate donors. \u201cI figured [working with The American Red Cross] was the next step in helping people after being in different areas of healthcare for 10 years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kayleigh Hand, coordinator of early engagement for Alumni Engagement, heard about the national blood shortage and decided to donate. She explained that donating blood \u201cis a simple way to help others that costs you nothing (other than some slight dizziness).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kayleigh was nervous to give blood for the first time, she said \u201cthe staff were great and helped ease my thoughts throughout the process.
