Accentuated throughout our business-as-usual campus activity is the growing use of&nbsp;artificial&nbsp;intelligence.&nbsp;<br><br>At UNC Charlotte,&nbsp;AI&nbsp;use is prevalent in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/click.mc.charlotte.edu\/?qs=6520e31d10f645c77087ae48b8b634fbd4745fa384f44c4fbdf369b3bf9a807f7c190a7fdd4f910cd7393057795a2fdca538a462cb9981efccbbd97c43846986\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">teaching and learning<\/a>, research and its administration, and a number of business operations. With&nbsp;AI\u2019s growing presence, it is important for faculty, staff and students \u2014 now and moving forward \u2014 to adopt a university-wide understanding and acknowledgement of its acceptable, ethical and responsible use.&nbsp;<br><br>As we prepare our students to enter a workforce that will require proficient use of&nbsp;AI&nbsp;tools, regardless of their field, students will be looking to faculty and staff to model the appropriate use of those tools. We are making that possible in a number of ways:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Center for Teaching and Learning offers in-person and online\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/click.mc.charlotte.edu\/?qs=6520e31d10f645c76a21f9e1e0675597a9cf395211e454a0e8816eac446eb2d75700c4bcb5149bdeddee149e68181d45aeb3a306193775e8c1fcd285c006f146\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">workshops<\/a>\u00a0to bring faculty members up to speed on best practices for using generative\u00a0AI\u00a0in their courses and classrooms \u2014 and for guiding student use. Additionally, the Office of Legal Affairs provides related direction for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/click.mc.charlotte.edu\/?qs=6520e31d10f645c77eaebdbef8b4f7e9ed130d99e8eb4c12d7230806d6a7df0de034afa1a240831a0e43a5103a750f48413f700c824e9de0af496dccc5c461f2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">syllabus policies and notices<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This fall, working groups will be convened by the Division of Academic Affairs (with representation from Faculty Council), the Division of Research and the Division of Business Affairs to address workable processes and practices surrounding the use of\u00a0AI\u00a0in key University areas. These groups will draw from faculty and staff representatives across multiple divisions, and more information will be shared soon.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Office of OneIT\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/click.mc.charlotte.edu\/?qs=6520e31d10f645c77959cfbf957c8770c6d261f9586cefdcb639bb7a1cd5e92e22e39d1d16e4caafeba9a805718e91d46c503cfedcc51770359c47b9bd1de2af\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AI\u00a0Steering Committee<\/a>\u00a0has created\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/click.mc.charlotte.edu\/?qs=6520e31d10f645c72fa990d1104318592a9037b8c3381bf105dbdffbb4cd49527c31c7891dc60580092926e0b99c11e5616de1173af1331c6cd38ef7a425e03a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">guiding principles<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/click.mc.charlotte.edu\/?qs=6520e31d10f645c701547322b4bcf878d9946b83bf0bb424ebcb32c8189dedc65b65a150232d1c6da8ec750eae993074f7f8d3f40413c8b2af64c8456030af76\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AI\u00a0software guidance<\/a>\u00a0and a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/click.mc.charlotte.edu\/?qs=6520e31d10f645c71c1805ca7534c50a5bd36f72f29504d77b729da989e3410fe3b2f2e802bc926d997aefbe9667b6446b54587c1f7c6aeb6e0bd35ec273a293\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">security checklist<\/a>\u00a0that apply to all decision making about\u00a0AI\u00a0and its technology. For instance, a list of campus-wide\u00a0AI\u00a0tools with approved data security and privacy policies is available. For other software needs, follow\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/click.mc.charlotte.edu\/?qs=6520e31d10f645c77ccc5efe25f1c367d00b92087a1b2227d36bd8841e391b2ccd4e23f490240c201ec536407b2431ccb8f070709f800e0c3a5702615762b97f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">campus procurement policies<\/a>\u00a0and work with procurement agents to submit the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/click.mc.charlotte.edu\/?qs=6520e31d10f645c725242369a7fa8399bc14a4892c1906da57f9a644c9713e252cbfc5214c06777a9ffd16c28df30eadd236b65c2336a42e9e59c2ff80edc8d1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Software &amp; IT-Related Request form<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Just as&nbsp;AI&nbsp;continues to evolve, so too will its use on campus.
