architecture student organizations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are many organizations at UNC Charlotte for all students to join. Student organizations in the School of Architecture include local chapters of national organizations and societies, as well as student clubs. Many of these organizations hold yearly networking events, travel to conventions, and give students the opportunity to expand their connections in the professional design community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The UNC Charlotte Chapter of the American Institute of Architecture Students in Charlotte, NC. The AIAS is a voice for students, and much more. The AIAS also helps ensure your success upon completing your education through the connections you will make with educators, architects, designers, and other professionals. The AIAS offers several conferences and events each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freedom by Design (FBD)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Freedom by Design\u2122, the AIAS community service program, utilizes the talents of architecture students to radically impact the lives of people in their community through modest design and construction solutions. Our priority is improving the safety, comfort, and dignity of the home\u2019s occupants. Through numerous AIAS chapters, FBD teaches students how to resolve accessibility issues while providing them with mentorship from an architect and constructor, and an understanding of the practical impact of architecture and design.<\/p>\n<\/div>

National Organization of Minority Architecture Students (NOMAS)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

NOMAS is the student chapter of NOMA. NOMA\u2019s mission, rooted in a rich legacy of activism, is to empower our local chapters and membership to foster justice and equity in communities of color through outreach, community advocacy, professional development, and design excellence. NOMA works toward the building of a strong national organization, strong chapters and strong members for the purpose of minimizing the effect of racism in the architecture profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Master of Architecture Student Society (MASS)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The College of Architecture\u2019s Master of Architecture Student Society (MASS) exists to host an annual symposium each spring. Each year, CriticalMASS <\/a>gathers professionals, faculty, graduate students, and observing undergraduates from various universities to participate in a focused discussion and critique of the architectural design and research generated within the Southeastern region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Support Resources<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you need classroom support, have questions about a classroom topic or approach, or have witnessed something in class you\u2019d like to speak about, the instructor<\/strong> is a highly recommended first point of contact. If you cannot approach the instructor, you may consider communicating with the chair or director as a facilitator. See more resources, below. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Student Assistance and Support Services<\/strong><\/summary>\n

The Office of Student Affairs: Student Assistance and Support Services<\/a> (SASS) assists, supports, and advocates for students experiencing a broad range of issues, concerns, or challenges interfering with a student\u2019s ability to be successful academically or personally. This includes absence verification, basic needs, emergency housing, food insecurity, student complaints, student emergency fund, tuition, housing and dining appeals, withdrawal, and incomplete grade requests.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

Office of Civil Rights & Title IX<\/strong><\/summary>\n

You can report incidents of sexual and interpersonal misconduct, as well as incidents of discrimination and harassment to this office to the Office of Civil Rights & Title IX<\/a>. This office takes active measures to create or restore a respectful, safe, and inclusive environment for community members that is free from discrimination, discriminatory harassment, and sexual or interpersonal violence. Title IX reports also connect students with appropriate resources (i.e. SASS, Dean of Students, chair, etc.).<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) <\/strong><\/summary>\n

Counseling and Psychological Services<\/a> (CAPS)\u2019s primary goal is to provide comprehensive wellness-related programs and services to students. CAPS offers individual and group counseling, crisis assistance, consultation, referrals, outreach, and online training.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
