Marc Manack AIA NCARB is an Architect, Associate Professor and Undergraduate Program Director in the Ravin School of Architecture at UNC Charlotte, and is founding principal of the architecture and design practice SILO AR+D.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His professional design work and creative practice have been recognized nationally and internationally in numerous publications, exhibitions, and design awards. SILO has been recognized as an Emerging Voice by The Architectural League of New York (2016), a Next
Progressive in Architect Magazine (2018), and AN Interior Top 50 American Architects by the Architect\u2019s Newspaper (2021). In 2022, SILO was chosen by the Walton Family Foundation for inclusion in its Design Excellence Program. SILO has been selected as an artist in residence at the
Haystack Mountain School of Crafts and Loghaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Manack\u2019s research focuses on the relationship between design processes, project delivery, and organizations of practice. He is interested in how that relationship is affected by emerging cultural and technological phenomena, leading to advanced possibilities for expression and new
definitions for practice in architecture. He has taught previously at the University of Arkansas Fay Jones School of Architecture, Kent State University College of Architecture and Environmental Design, and at Ohio State University’s Austin E. Knowlton School of Architecture,

\"Steel<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Steel Louise is a single-family urban infill house located in Charlotte, designed and built by SILO AR+D. Situated in Belmont, a historic neighborhood undergoing rapid transformation near the urban core of Charlotte\u2019s Uptown, the architecture expresses dramatic contradictions between the neighborhood\u2019s past and present. Steel Louise is the recipient of the 2023 Matsumoto Prize<\/a> and Honor Awards for design from AIA North Carolina and AIA Charlotte.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\"People_s<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

People\u2019s Porch<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>is a platform for community activism in Charlotte\u2019s Enderly Park Neighborhood. The\u00a0design build<\/a>\u00a0project led by Marc Manack emerged in response to resident feedback from workshops that revealed the need for an accessible and open public community gathering place. The\u00a0project<\/a>\u00a0is a recipient of the 2024 Phil Freelon Public Architecture Award and a Merit Award for design from AIA North Carolina.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Tiny Tinny<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>is a low-cost ADU prototype, designed and constructed with SoA graduate students for the 2024 edition of Charlotte Shout!, an aspirational multi-week festival designed to showcase our community by celebrating Charlotte’s creativity and innovation through art, music, food, and ideas.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
