She completed her undergraduate Bachelor of Architecture at Texas Tech University in 1986 and her graduate Master of Environmental Design at Yale University in 1992. Her scholarship focuses primarily on the conceptual dimensions of architecture\u2019s materiality, tectonics, and architectural &#8220;marks,&#8221;&nbsp;and has been articulated in papers such as &#8220;Students Consider Architecture&#8217;s Materiality&#8221;\u2014JAE, &#8220;Stance and Circumstance: Intentional Materiality&#8221;\u2014ACSA, and &#8220;detail, Detail, Ornament, decoration: A Taxonomy&#8221;\u2014ACSA. Her teaching spans advanced level architectural design studios, including the Graduate Integrated Project, Materials and Methods, and advanced critical practice\/technology electives including &#8220;MARK,&#8221;&nbsp;\u201cCritical Artful Materiality Tectonics,\u201d and \u201cIn the Details.\u201d&nbsp;She Chaired the National ACSA Technology Conference entitled \u201c\u2019Souped-Up\u2019 and \u2018UnPlugged\u2019: Perspectives on Architectural Technology.\u201d&nbsp;During her tenure at UNC&nbsp;Charlotte, she developed two lecture series\u2019&#8211;\u201cArchitecture\u2019s Materiality\u201d and \u201cBEYOND CENTER: Diversity in Architecture.\u201d She served as Associate Director of the School of Architecture for 8 years. She served several terms as national Secretary and Treasurer for Tau Sigma Delta, an architecture honor society. Her current initiatives are focused on curriculum reform related to the Climate Emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">EXPLORE HER&nbsp;RECENT WORK<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-7387b849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MARKS:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Carlson-Reddigs\u00a0researches the material, haptic, and aesthetic realms of the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/cws.charlotte.edu\/backup-coaa\/sites\/cws.charlotte.edu\/backup-coaa\/files\/media\/Arch_4050_6050_CarlsonReddig_S19.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MARK<\/a>\u201d in the context\u00a0of architecture. MARKS in architecture arise at the intersection of materiality and technique and\u00a0are conceived through design and realized\u00a0in the acts of making, craft, construction, fabrication, and assembly.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;Margin &amp; Text &#8211; Voices on the Verge Intro&#8221;<\/strong>: In response to our history there has emerged an insistence among majority architects (which is\u00a0almost all of us) that difference doesn&#8217;t matter \u2013 that we don&#8217;t see people in terms of skin color, ethnicity, nationality, socioeconomics, politics, gender identification, etc.\u00a0Hence this publication, a collection of the 2020-21 lecture series at the School of Architecture at the\u00a0University of North Carolina, Charlotte. While the speakers were exceptionally diverse \u2013 each a\u00a0unique manifestation of their profession \u2013 their tone, without exception, was positive and forward-looking.
