On October 26, Manack spoke at the Drury University Hammons School of Architecture in Springfield, Missouri, as part of the lecture series, <em>Impermanence.<\/em> The lecture, <em>GOOD|FAST|CHEAP<\/em> focused on the work of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.siloard.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SILO AR+D<\/a>, the practice he directs with partner Frank Jacobus, and in particular, how their temporary architectural installations influence their permanent building proposals.<\/p>\n<p>On November 1, Manack will deliver the lecture at the annual meeting of the Cleveland chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in Cleveland, Ohio. The AIA Cleveland lecture, <em>smallness<\/em>, uses the work of SILO AR+D to discuss not only the unique issues of practice, but to reveal the distinct qualities and possibilities of small-scaled architecture.<\/p>\n<p>Manack joined the School of Architecture faculty in August, coming to UNC Charlotte from the University of Arkansas Fay Jones School of Architecture. He founded SILO A+R in 2009, and since 2012, he and Jacobus have operated the architecture, research, and design practice out of Cleveland, Ohio, and Fayetteville, Arkansas. They added Charlotte as an operational center this fall. <\/p>\n<p>SILO AR+D has recently received recognition as one of North America\u2019s most promising new architecture firms. In February 2016, SILO AR+D won an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.azuremagazine.com\/article\/emerging-voices-awards-2016\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Emerging Voices Award<\/a> from the Architectural League of New York, one of eight practices honored. The online magazine <a href=\"http:\/\/www.archipreneur.com\/10-best-architecture-startups-in-2016\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Archipreneuer<\/a> also named SILO AR+D one of the \u201c10 best architecture start-ups in 2016.\u201d<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Assistant Professor of Architecture Marc Manack is a guest speaker on two architecture lecture series this fall.
