But he found satisfaction in the rigor of the curriculum. \u201cI really liked the challenge. It was a competitive environment; you had to perform. The pride of having quality work \u2013 there\u2019s a reward in that that has great value.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even though the curriculum was \u201cgrueling,\u201d he says, \u201cthere was a lot of play mixed into the rigor.\u201d He fondly remembers the boat races in Heckenbleikner Lake. \u201cI won a trophy that I still have. It\u2019s half a horse\u2019s ass. We were the fastest across the lake, but then we sank!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the past several years, Jones has spent a fair amount of time at his alma mater. With Jones as project director, Clark Nexsen, an architecture and engineering firm headquartered in Virginia Beach, designed two of the new residence halls \u2013 Belk and Miltimore, both in North Village \u2013 and redesigned Holshouser Hall in South Village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jones says he still stays in touch with his fellow UNC Charlotte architecture students. \u201cThere\u2019s a camaraderie built.
