Evan Danchenka’s trips to New York City while a student in the School of Architecture led to what he calls his “delirious experience” with the Big Apple. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In 2nd<\/sup> year, we saw the sites. In 3rd<\/sup> year, I composed music using subway sounds. In 5th<\/sup> year, we explored ways of measuring, programming, and designing building through computational tools. Today, I work on a combination of all these elements.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beginning as a Design Analyst at Gensler’s New York office, Evan now leads the northeast region\u2019s Building Repositioning Practice Area, where his team advises developers and owners on how to attract the next generation of building occupants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“One of the best lessons from school that sticks with me today is how to represent architecture as an ecosystem of people and activities within. Sometimes the perfect section-perspective diagram can reveal value in an existing building that no one has quite envisioned before.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Levine Scholar while at UNC Charlotte, it was in the School of Architecture that Evan learned “how to differentiate good ideas from powerful ones,” he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The SoA prepares its students for practice through a blend of exploration, theory, and technical training. This formula helps teach you how to put a building together, while also remaining curious about the possibilities of the architecture industry.
