How did you first get interested in architecture?<\/strong>
I originally planned to join the FBI\u2019s counterterrorism task force, driven by a desire to protect and serve. But when COVID put everything on pause, I had the chance to reflect and explore new interests. That\u2019s when architecture came into focus\u2014thanks in part to my brother-in-law, who works in the field. Watching him create spaces that impact lives showed me that design can be its own kind of service. The shift from law enforcement to architecture may seem unexpected, but for me, it felt like a natural way to make a difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What kind of career do you hope to have?<\/strong>
I hope to build a career as an architect focused on designing housing that\u2019s both affordable and sustainable. Growing up in affordable housing showed me how vital stable homes are, and I want to give back by creating spaces that are environmentally responsible and accessible to communities like the one I came from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is your favorite thing about the David R. Ravin School of Architecture?<\/strong>
My favorite thing about UNC Charlotte and the School of Architecture is the strong sense of community and the close friendships I\u2019ve built. During my time working toward my associate\u2019s degree, I often felt disconnected and lacked that sense of belonging. But here, I\u2019ve found a supportive environment where creativity, collaboration, and connection are part of the everyday experience. Being surrounded by people who share similar passions has made a huge difference, both personally and academically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you participate in any community activities or work in the Charlotte arts community?<\/strong>
Yes, I\u2019ve been involved in the campus design community as a first-year representative for both the School of Architecture and AIAS. This fall, I\u2019ll continue that work as the AIAS historian, helping document and share our group\u2019s growth and projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?<\/strong>
When I\u2019m not in class or working, I enjoy going to the gym, reading when my attention span allows, and working on models or design ideas for fun. It helps me stay creative and balanced outside of school.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
