{"id":71567,"date":"2026-02-13T09:40:27","date_gmt":"2026-02-13T14:40:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cws.charlotte.edu\/backup-coaa\/?p=71567"},"modified":"2026-02-19T11:11:02","modified_gmt":"2026-02-19T16:11:02","slug":"professor-elevated-to-prestigious-aia-college-of-fellows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cws.charlotte.edu\/backup-coaa\/2026\/02\/13\/professor-elevated-to-prestigious-aia-college-of-fellows\/","title":{"rendered":"Professor Elevated to Prestigious AIA College of Fellows"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Associate Professor of Architecture <a href=\"https:\/\/cws.charlotte.edu\/backup-coaa\/people\/marc-manack\/\">Marc Manack<\/a> has been elevated to the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The College of Fellows was established in 1952 and represents architects \u201cwho have achieved a standard of excellence in the profession and made a significant contribution to architecture and society on a national level,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aia.org\/about-aia\/press\/aia-elevates-78-architects-college-fellows\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.aia.org\/about-aia\/press\/aia-elevates-78-architects-college-fellows\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the AIA stated in a press release<\/a>.\u00a0Fellowship status is the AIA\u2019s highest membership honor, and fewer than 3% of AIA members hold the prestigious designation, FAIA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Manack, who is the undergraduate program director for the David R. Ravin School of Architecture and founding principal of the architecture and design practice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.siloard.com\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.siloard.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SILO AR+D<\/a>, was nominated under Object 1, design, indicating that he has \u201cpromoted the aesthetic, scienti\ufb01c and practical ef\ufb01ciency of the profession.\u201d&nbsp;His work has received more than 40 AIA design awards and has been exhibited nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThrough SILO, Marc has built a body of work that fuses rigorous inquiry with architectural experimentation,\u201d wrote Robert Maschke, FAIA, in his nomination letter. \u201cHis projects\u2014whether the national award-winning North Presbyterian Church, a distinctive residence like Mood Ring or the inventive community space The People\u2019s Porch\u2014demonstrate how design excellence can serve both individuals and communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Manack is the third Fellow currently on the faculty of the School of Architecture, joining Director Blaine Brownell and Professor David Thaddeus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am thrilled to celebrate Associate Professor Marc Manack, FAIA, on his elevation to the AIA College of Fellows,\u201d said Brownell. \u201cAs a practitioner, teacher and leader at the Ravin School of Architecture, he has dedicated his career to democratizing design and advocating for the role of excellence in shaping communities.&nbsp;In our classrooms, Marc serves as a transformative mentor, modeling the role of the citizen architect for a new generation of practitioners. By bridging his professional practice with his teaching, he creates a vital feedback loop where students and communities co-develop projects with real-world impact.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fellows are selected by a nine-member Jury of Fellows. This year, the AIA elevated 78 members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also elevated to FAIA was architecture alumnus <a href=\"https:\/\/cws.charlotte.edu\/backup-coaa\/faces\/robby-johnston\/\">Robby Johnston \u201903<\/a>, co-founder with his fellow alumnus, Craig Kerins \u201904, of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.raleigh-architecture.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Raleigh Architecture Co<\/a>.
