Announcements & Trainings

DR hosts a number of personal development trainings and workshops, plus team-building and other events throughout the year. Refer back to this page often as the calendar is updated regularly. You will also find announcements specific to DR staff and those we support.

Policy Updates

Federal sponsors have introduced a new mandatory Research Security Training. It’s designed to safeguard the security of our research activities while preserving academic freedom, scientific inquiry, and both domestic and international collaborations. Topics include Research Security Basics, Disclosures, Managing and Mitigating Risk, and International Collaboration.

All researchers with active DOD, DOE or military grants/contracts or who plan to submit proposals must complete the training by March 31, 2025. We anticipate this training will be adopted by other federal agencies soon. So, if you plan on pursuing any federal funding, we encourage you to complete the training in the spring or early summer to avoid non-submission.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) training modules are available here, through our CITI institutional subscription. They take approximately four (4) hours to complete, which does not have to be continuous. Completion will be recorded by DR’s Office or Research Protections and Integrity (ORPI).

We ask that all researchers prioritize completing this training by the deadline to ensure a smooth experience with your current or future research endeavors. Please be on the lookout for more information and instructions from ORPI.

Starting February 15th, 2025, outside investigators or consultants listed or added to a sponsored award in Niner Research must obtain a Sponsored Guest Account (@charlotte.edu) approved to log into the system. They will no longer be able to log in with personal email accounts.

This means UNC Charlotte Principal Investigators (PIs) will need to plan for additional time to ensure proper review and approval of University Sponsored Guest Accounts.

Additionally, any consultant or subrecipient who does not have an active and/or enforced compliant conflict of interest policy must agree to abide by UNC Charlotte’s COI policy 101.24 “Conflicts of Interest and Commitment and complete a COI disclosure form in Niner Research before a proposal can be submitted.
