Committees
We have six units to help navigate every part of the research and innovation journey. If you’re faculty, you will likely interface with most of the offices listed below. If you’re a partner (community, industry, non-profit, healthcare, government, or business), you will primarily interface with the Office of Research Commercialization and Partnerships.
Institutional Review Board (IRB)
Responsible for making sure humans partnering in research studies at UNC Charlotte are protected throughout the research process.
Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
Responsible for ensuring the protection and care of vertebrate animals used in research studies at UNC Charlotte.
Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)
Works to ensure the safe handling of bio-hazardous agents, and reducing the potential for personnel exposure or accidental environmental release.
Faculty Patent Committee (FPC)
Helps guide the patents process for inventions made by UNC Charlotte faculty, staff, students and University research partners.
AI Research
Council
Provides guidance on the use of AI for the research community at UNC Charlotte. This Council is an extension of the University’s AI Steering Committee on which Division of Research Associate Vice Chancellor, Dr. Deb Thomas, is a member.

Research Administration Advisory Council (RAAC)
Helps guide pre-award and post-award processes and procedures involving sponsored programs administration.
COMMITTEE FOR LEARNING, ENRICHMENT, AND RESPECT (CLEAR) COUNCIL
Helps promote an atmosphere and work environment of respect, dignity, and cultural awareness.
