The University is further committed to assisting faculty and students in fulfilling their obligation to plan and conduct animal experiments in accord with the highest scientific, humane, and ethical principles, and in accord with the Public Health Service Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and the Animal Welfare Act. For further information on the University’s commitment, see University Policy 310, “Laboratory Animals Used for Teaching and Research.”<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n In support of this commitment, the University has established the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) that, together with the University Attending Veterinarian, the Director of Laboratory Animal Resources (DLAR), and the Office of Research Protections and Integrity (ORPI) administers policies and procedures related to the University\u2019s program of animal care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The ORPI provides administrative support for the IACUC, assists investigators in completing protocol application forms, coordinates annual reviews, tracks participation in the occupational health and safety program, schedules meetings, and compiles the minutes of the IACUC. The ORPI also schedules the semi-annual inspection of animal facilities and the semi-annual review of the Animal Care and Use Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
