That\u2019s where five dynamic faculty and student research and innovation teams were honored for inventions ranging from a breakthrough approach to fighting cancer cells, to enhancing our defense systems with a revolutionary way to send data in extreme environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe ideas and technologies emerging from UNC Charlotte are not just advancing science; they are strengthening our economy, supporting national security, and improving lives,\u201d shared Chancellor Sharon L. Invention: <em>Redox Active Self-Healing Polymers<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/chemistry.charlotte.edu\/directory\/christopher-bejger-phd\/\">Christopher Bejger<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/dr-sushil-bhatta-35a260141\/\">Sushil Bhatta<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/fueadhasan\/\">Fuead Hasan<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/chemistry.charlotte.edu\/people\/jonathan-gillen\/\">Jonathan Gillen<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-normal-font-size\"><strong>Information and Data Science:<\/strong> An AI-powered drone platform that supports real-time disaster response and operational decision-making, with applications in emergency management and defense. Invention:<strong> <\/strong><em>Real-Time Drone-Based Catastrophe Management and Adaptive Resource Deployment System<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/cci.charlotte.edu\/directory\/liz-johnson\/\">Elizabeth Johnson<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/kaleb-wainright-405a2a126\/\">Kaleb Wainright<\/a>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Life Sciences and Health:<\/strong> A bi-specific antibody therapy that enhances the immune system\u2019s ability to target cancer cells, advancing precision medicine. Invention: <em>Bi-specific Antibody Therapy<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/biology.charlotte.edu\/directory\/pinku-mukherjee-phd\/\">Pinku Mukherjee<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/timothy-erick-251aa831\/\">Timothy Erick<\/a>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Physical and Material Sciences:<\/strong> A portable optical inspection system for detecting microscopic defects, supporting high-reliability manufacturing in sectors such as aerospace and semiconductors. Invention: P<em>ortable Optical Inspection Device Capable Of Detecting Microscopic Surface Defects<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/mees.charlotte.edu\/directory\/konstantinos-falaggis\/\">Kosta Falaggis<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/sevda-mamaghani\">Sevda Mamaghani<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Excellence Award<\/strong> was presented to <a href=\"https:\/\/ece.charlotte.edu\/people\/soumitra-r-joy-ph-d\/\">Soumitra Roy Joy<\/a> for <em>Signal Transmission by Engineered Wire Composed of Isolated Metallic Islands<\/em>, a breakthrough in signal transmission using engineered metallic island structures with applications in wearable electronics, resilient communications, and next-generation defense systems operating in extreme environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Innovation Across Disciplines\u2014and Sectors<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year\u2019s program considered 41 patented technologies, up from 27 in the inaugural year, spanning life sciences, engineering, computing, energy, and materials science. That diversity reflects a broader truth: many of today\u2019s most important breakthroughs occur at the intersection of fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By bringing together innovations across domains, the event fosters new connections that link ideas, technologies, and applications in unexpected ways.
